Pre and Post Tattoo Instructions
Paramedical tattooing is performed on surgically altered or scarred tissue. Proper preparation supports optimal healing and pigment retention.
Medical Screening

Diabetes (especially if uncontrolled) -

Autoimmune conditions

History of keloid scarring

Bleeding disorders
-
Active chemotherapy or radiation

Current infection or skin irritation

Recent steroid injections in treatment area
Pregnancy or breastfeeding
Medical clearance may be required.


Pre and Post Tattoo
7–14 Days Before Procedure

-Ensure scar is fully healed (6–12 months post-surgery unless otherwise approved)

Avoid sunburn or tanning in the treatment area

Discontinue retinoids near the area

Avoid chemical peels or laser treatments on the area
48–72 Hours Before

- Avoid alcohol
-
Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, or blood thinners (unless medically prescribed)

Avoid excessive caffeine
Avoid vigorous exercise immediately before appointment These reduce bleeding and improve pigment implantation.
Day of Procedure

Eat a normal meal
-
Stay hydrated
-
Wear loose, comfortable clothing -

Do not apply lotion, oils, or makeup to treatment area
Pre and Post Tattoo Instructions
First 24 Hours

Area may appear darker and slightly swollen
-
Mild redness is normal
Gently blot (do not rub) if clear lymph fluid appears - Keep area clean and dry
Days 1–7

Clean gently with mild, fragrance-free cleanser
-
Pat dry with clean towel
-
Apply thin layer of recommended aftercare ointment (as directed)

Avoid soaking (no baths, pools, hot tubs)
-
Avoid heavy sweating
-
Do not pick, scratch, or peel Light flaking is normal.
Weeks 2–4

Color will soften and appear lighter
-
Continue avoiding sun exposure
-
Do not use exfoliants on treated area
-
Monitor for unusual irritation
Scar tissue may heal more slowly than normal skin.

Avoid saunas/steam rooms

Avoid tight or friction-causing clothing

Avoid heavy workouts that cause excessive sweating

Increasing redness after 48 hours

Heat, swelling, or pus

Fever

Signs of allergic reaction Infection is rare when proper sterile protocol is followed, but early intervention is important.
Healing Timeline

Days 1–3: Darker tone, mild swelling

Days 4–7 Light flaking
-
Weeks 2–4: Color softens
-
6–8 Weeks: Final healed tone visible
A follow-up session is typically scheduled at 6–8 weeks.
Long-Term Care

Use SPF on exposed treated areas
-
Avoid aggressive resurfacing procedures over tattoo
-
Schedule maintenance as desired (3–7 years typical fade range)
